Hand History Reviews
A review of the hands that did, or didn't work out well for me....... Feel free to leave comments regarding strategies, betting styles or anything you wish. If you're a Pokerschool Online member you can watch the replays of each hand in the Hand Replayer.
No 4.
Plenty of limpers here so I was getting great value to flat call in position. I was extremely lucky that it was the Big Blind that was short stacked and the Small Blind that had the large stack. If it was the other way around I'd have been crushed.
This was one of those rare occasions where I lose the hand and still manage to nearly double-up. I jammed post flop as the pot was already one third of my stack and I knew I was going to be pot committed.

Here I attempted a blind steal (On the Buttton) with suited gapped connectors....... How do you think I got on? Would you have opened this hand?
The interesting thing with this hand was trying to read the opponents as the board was dealt out. Leave a comment on your thoughts about the hand....... The hand can be replayed by clicking the link at the bottom of the photo.

This one didn't work out good! Looking back on it there's nothing I've have done different. Made a standard raise in early position and I was never folding preflop with this holding.
The only thing to do is make a note on the opponents shoving range while short stacked! Thankfully the damage was at a minimum....... Leave a comment if you have similar stories of being sucked out like this.

Flopped a straight and nut flush draw..... My opponents starting hands made sure I got paid off here....

Spindler Takes Down EPT London
Benny Spindler won EPT London and £750,000, finally fulfilling the expectations of the poker paparazzi by winning a major title. It was a virtuoso performance from the German, one which matched bare aggression with stunning reads that blasted his opposition off the final table.
Spindler, hair in face, could see enough to roll up his sleeves and win the hard way, personally responsible for the departure of five of his final table opponents. Runner-up Steve O'Dwyer took the other scalps on his way to well-deserved £465,000 score.

The September Micro Grind
The month of September was pretty good on the Micro Grind. I made a valuable discovery when I found out about officialpokerrankings.com (OPR) It's a website that tracks players stats and results and is a great tool for keeping track of your performance.
At the start of September I had a minus ROI (Return On Investment) according to OPR so I set off on a mission to rectify that. At the time of writing this post I've improved my ROI from minus 50% to a plus of 21% return. If anyone wants to take a look at my stats log in to OPR and search for royalraise85.
My target for this month (October) is to improve my overall rating from 85.89% to a plus 90% figure. One of the instructors on Pokerschool Online set out a challenge called the 'Cowboy Challenge'. This involves playing 100 games in the month with the objective of doubling your starting balance at the end of the month. Hopefully I'll run good and achieve both these targets. I'll be posting my results on this blog on a day by day basis.
The next big discovery of the month was getting Holdem Indicator. It's a great online poker calculator with a fantastically simple and easy to read graphic display. What I found best about this calculator is that it really helped understanding your odds & outs. The simple rule of thumb is that if you only have a 20% chance of winning the pot then don't call any bet that's more than 20% of the pot. I hope to do a You-tube review of Holdem Indicator soon but if you want to find out more about it now then just click on the flashing banner on the top of this blog. I can't recommend this enough for the micro-stakes player.
This isn't the best of pics but you get the idea. Notice the column on the right and the bar charts. The green bar is your odds of winning and the red bar is the % of pot you have to call in order to stay in the hand. Here I'm clearly not folding. (By the way I made $6 taking this picture so thank you Blog).
Holdem Indicator also has a HUD (Heads Up Display) which isn't on this picture. The HUD gives you individual player stats on all your opponents. The HUD appears after a few hands (I only played one here to take this picture) but if you want to see the HUD working just click the link at the top of the page.

Pokerstars Cowboys Challenge
Challenge Completed
On this post I'll be keeping track of my Pokerschool Online Cowboy's Challenge brought to you by Pokerstars.
The idea here is to play 100 $0.25c Sit N' Go's each month. October is a practice month and starting in November the top 3 finishers in the challenge will be awarded Step tickets by Pokerstars.
Starting Balance - $6.25 (Greens are cashes)
